Attachments
Notes can contain images and file attachments. Attachments are stored with the note and encrypted with the rest of the note data.
How to attach
- Drag & drop a file from your desktop into the editor.
- Paste an image directly from the clipboard.
- Type
/filein the editor and pick a file.
Supported file types
Takt accepts any file under the size limit. The types below are the ones Takt recognises and gives a tailored icon and preview to; other files are still stored, just with a generic icon.
| Category | Types |
|---|---|
| Images | PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, SVG, BMP, TIFF, HEIC/HEIF |
| Word documents | DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF |
| Spreadsheets | XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV, TSV |
| Presentations | PPT, PPTX, ODP, KEY |
| Archives | ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR, GZ |
| Audio & video | any audio or video type |
| Text & code | TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, and common source-code files |
Excalidraw drawings — inserted with /drawing or created
automatically when you paste a Mermaid diagram (see
Notes & editor) — are stored the
same way and appear in the attachments view too.
Limits
The maximum size for a single attachment is 10 MB. This keeps the local database fast and the sync payloads small.
Where attachments live
Attachments are stored in your browser's IndexedDB alongside the rest of your local data. Sync uploads encrypted bytes.
Previewing
Images render inline and open in a lightbox. PDFs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files open in a full-screen preview: PDFs render page by page (up to the first 50 pages), and spreadsheets show a tab for each sheet. For anything the preview doesn't cover, download the original from the toolbar.
Removing
Each attachment block has a delete button in its toolbar. You can also select the block and press Backspace. The file is removed from the local store on next save.
The attachments view
The Attachments view in the sidebar lists every note that has files attached. Group by type or by tag, filter with the per-type pills, and use it as a starting point to find a file when you remember the context but not the note. Download files one at a time from here; to save many at once, select notes in a list view and use the batch download dialog (attachments are included in the Markdown ZIP).
