Settings
Settings are grouped into General, Appearance, Capture & tags, Account & security, and Data & integrations. This page covers the ones you'll reach for most.
Appearance
Theme
Pick a theme, or let Takt follow your system:
- Auto — follows your operating system's light/dark setting. Choosing a light theme sets the light side of Auto; choosing a dark theme sets the dark side.
- Light — the default light theme.
- E-ink (light) — a high-contrast, low-colour light theme (near-black on cream), easy on the eyes and paper-like.
- Dark — the default dark theme.
- E-ink (dark) — a high-contrast dark theme (white on near-black).
The two E-ink themes are how Takt does high contrast: stronger borders and text for low-vision use, in a light and a dark variant.
Font
- Schibsted Grotesk — the default sans-serif.
- Martina Plantijn — a serif option for the editor and note titles.
Font scale
Scale the whole UI's type with a size picker: Small, Default, Large, or X-Large. Useful on large external displays or when you want a denser screen.
General
Language
Takt is available in English, Deutsch, and Français. The app picks up your browser language by default; you can override it here.
Dates & calendar
- Date format — choose month-first (Feb 8, 2026), day-first (8 Feb 2026), or ISO (2026-02-08). Each option shows a live preview.
- Week starts on — Sunday or Monday, used by the home view and date pickers.
Account & security
The account section is hidden in the demo. On a real account you can:
- Change your email address
- Change your login password
- Change your encryption passphrase
- Register a passkey (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello) — on authenticators that support the WebAuthn PRF extension, the passkey can also unlock device-encrypted notes without re-entering the passphrase
- Set up or remove two-factor authentication, and view or regenerate your one-time recovery codes
- Turn on reminder notifications (web push) for this device
- Choose how long to stay unlocked — cache the derived encryption key for 3 hours, 1, 7, or 30 days, or Never so the passphrase is asked for on every launch
- Sign out everywhere — revokes every active session on every device. Changing your login password also signs out every other session automatically
- Delete account — requires re-entering your current password
See Sync & encryption for the difference between the login password and the encryption passphrase, and for how a password reset affects your notes in each mode.
Data & integrations
- Import — bring in Markdown vaults/folders (Takt, Obsidian, or Apple-style), plain text, PDFs, or a previous Takt export.
- Export — download your full library as a ZIP of Markdown files, optionally with YAML frontmatter and attachments.
- API keys — create and revoke keys for integrations. When two-factor authentication is on, creating a key asks for a code.
- Bulk delete — remove all notes and tags in one step.
See Import & export for the details.
