Notes & editor
The Takt editor supports rich text, Markdown shortcuts, slash commands, and standard keyboard formatting shortcuts.
Slash commands
Type / at the start of a line to open the slash menu. Filter
by typing more characters and press Enter to insert.
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/h1 /h2 /h3 | Heading |
/bullet | Bulleted list |
/numbered | Numbered list |
/checkbox | Task list |
/quote | Block quote |
/code | Code block |
/divider | Horizontal rule |
/table | Table |
/drawing | Excalidraw drawing |
/file | File or image attachment |
/cleanText | Tidy messy text pasted from PDFs, Word, or OCR |
/pasteWithoutFormatting | Paste the clipboard as plain text |
/pasteFormattedText | Paste the clipboard with formatting |
/task | Turn the current note into a task |
/note | Turn the current task back into a note |
/extractToNote | Move the selected paragraphs to a new linked note |
/setReminder | Pick a reminder date for this item |
/setDeadline | Pick a deadline for this task |
/addTag | Add a tag to this item |
When the cursor sits on a nested task inside a note, the slash menu also offers Reminder…, Deadline…, and Add tag targeted at that nested task.
Date shortcuts
Inside a note, the slash menu can insert common date text:
/today,/tomorrow,/yesterday
Reminders and deadlines are set from the command palette (⌘ K), the note's metadata bar, or a row's context menu.
Markdown shortcuts
The editor converts these Markdown patterns as you type:
| Type | Get |
|---|---|
# … ### | Heading 1–3 |
- or * | Bulleted list |
1. | Numbered list |
[] | Task |
> | Quote |
``` | Code block |
**bold** | Bold |
*italic* | Italic |
~~strike~~ | Strikethrough |
`code` | Inline code |
==highlight== | Highlight |
Keyboard formatting
| ⌘ B | Bold |
| ⌘ I | Italic |
| ⌘ ⇧ X | Strikethrough |
| ⌘ E | Inline code |
| ⌘ ⇧ H | Highlight |
| ⌘ F | Find in note |
| ⌘ ⇧ R | Find & replace in note |
| ⌘ ↵ | Create a note from the location bar |
Outside the editor, ⌘ ⇧ H opens Search & replace across the workspace.
See the full list on the Commands & shortcuts page.
Tables
Insert a table with /table. Use Tab to move between
cells (in the last cell it adds a new row), ⇧ Tab
to go back, and the table toolbar to add or remove rows and columns or to
toggle a header row or column. Select two or more cells to reveal
Merge and Split. Tables pasted from Word,
Google Docs, a spreadsheet, or a web page stay as real, editable
tables.
Links
Select text and use the link button in the formatting bar, or paste a URL
onto selected text, to create a link. Use the same button to edit or
remove it. Links open in a new tab; only http,
https, mailto, and tel addresses are
allowed.
Images and files
Drop images into the editor, paste images from the clipboard, or use
/file. Other files can also be attached with /file.
See Attachments for the list of supported
formats.
Drawings & diagrams
Insert a blank Excalidraw canvas with
/drawing, or paste a
Mermaid diagram — a
```mermaid code block inside Markdown, or a bare definition
such as flowchart TD … — and Takt converts it into an
editable Excalidraw drawing right in the note. Flowcharts, sequence
diagrams, and class diagrams become individual shapes and arrows you can
rearrange; if a diagram doesn't parse, it simply stays a code block.
Click a drawing to open it in the full-screen editor.
Auto-save
There is no save button. Changes are written to the local database and queued for sync. If the app is offline, the queue syncs when the connection returns.
